Screw Turkey, Eat Dahl: Recipe vegan

Who says you have to eat turkey at Christmas or any other time. Try dahl and rice and throw a few more things in there and you have a beautiful meal. Add a martini or three before hand, some nice beer or wine during and have yourself a party.

I love this recipe. It’s easy and makes my stomach happy.

I cup red lentils

2 cups water

salt to taste

1 tsp turmeric

1 green chili

2 tbs ghee (I never use this but the vegan stuff or oil instead)

1 large onion diced

3 large cloves garlic finely chopped

1 tbs garam masala

pinch of chili powder

2 tbsp. freshly chopped coriander leaves (cilantro)

I veggie cube

Fry chopped onion and garlic over medium heat until translucent. Add turmeric, garam masala, green chili and chili powder and salt. Saute for 1 to 2 minutes. Add lentils and mix. Add water and veggie cube. Turn to medium high heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. If it gets too thick add more liquid. Serve with rice and garnish with cilantro.

Wash lentils in cold water, drain and place in sauce pan with water salt
