Poem of the Week: Clearing by Martha Postlewaite

Clearing, by Martha Postlethwaite

Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
patiently,
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to this world
so worth of rescue.

Hello! I came across your website when searching this fabulous poem which has found its way into so many people’s hearts–and keeps doing so. I wrote a choral setting of the poem for upper voices. I am putting it here in case anyone would like to have a listen. Have a great day! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_BAnN_rOr8
